Deepfake AI Tools

Deepfake AI tools are not necessarily adult or NSFW in nature, but they warrant inclusion here. Deepfakes are essentially a “face swap” technology. Using AI you can take a video of one person and replace the face with that of someone else. There is a growing use of this for Deepfake AI where users convincingly alter videos and images by swapping faces, making people appear to say or do things they haven't.

The use of deepfake technology in pornography is highly controversial and many tools have no guardrails to prevent users “deepfaking” celebrities and others without consent. Like Deepnude AI tools - we strongly encourage users to use deepfake AI responsibly. These tools allow you to change existing footage or create brand-new scenes, producing fake but realistic videos, images and audio of anyone doing anything. These are powerful tools so use them wisely.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a deepfake?

The term "deepfake"  describes an image or video where AI has replaced the real face with a fake face or the face of someone else. The technology is very complex and is powered by artificial intelligence but luckily for you, it is quite easy to use.

Are deepfakes illegal?

There is nothing illegal about the technology behind deepfakes, however some uses of deepfakes are illegal, so you must use caution when attempting to create deepfakes. Making a deepfake of yourself riding a motorbike while juggling or walking on the moon is not a problem.

However, many deepfake users deepfake others without their consent, typically celebrities, and this is illegal. Others use deepfake technology for pornographic purposes and this too is generally illegal. The specific laws around deepfakes depend on your jurisdiction and what you deepfake, but a good rule of thumb is that if you would not discuss the deepfake you make with a family member, then it is probably illegal to create.

Why is Deepfake not banned?

It is virtually impossible to completely ban any technology, so prohibiting the use of deepfakes would most likely fail. Additionally, there are many legitimate use cases for deepfakes, especially in industries such as marketing and movie making, and by legitimate content creators on YouTube and similar platforms.

Can deepfakes be tracked?

There is no easy way to trace a deepfake, however, the app used to create it may log the work, and if you share anything online forensic cybersecurity specialists might be able to trace it back to you. If you are thinking about anonymous deepfakes there is a high likelihood your intentions may tend towards the unethical or even illegal. We strongly recommend not deepfaking anyone without their explicit permission and not to create deepfakes that might be problematic for you if discovered.

How can you spot a deepfake?

It is often impossible to spot or recognize a deepfake because AI technology is improving at an exponential rate. However, many lower-quality or rushed deepfakes will be recognizable because of inaccuracies, blurring, or a general "CGI" feel. If you are ever in doubt about the veracity of an image or video we recommend searching alternative, trusted, sources.

How can I prevent myself from being deepfaked?

The reality is you cannot prevent yourself from being deepfaked, but do not despair, everyone else is in the same position. If you are concerned about deepfakes in general then we recommend researching the topic further. However, if you have a specific concern or fear that you have been deepfaked then it might be best to get legal advice.

What can I do if I've been deepfaked?

If you have been caused harm by a deepfake you should contact the appropriate authorities, just as if you were caused harm by any other form of technology. If you have been deepfaked by a friend to show you in a humorous situation, like singing out of tune, then you can ask them to remove or not share it. However, if you have been the victim of any type of pornographic or explicit deepfake, or other serious action, then you should seek professional advice, from an attorney, the police, or a parent, if applicable.

Are there legitimate uses of deepfake?

Yes, there are many legitimate uses of deepfake, such as replacing body doubles in movie action scenes. Most technology has legitimate applications, even if some users choose to use it in an unethical manner.

Can I make a deepfake?

Yes, anyone can make a deepfake using the AI tools listed in this directory, and you do not need any skills or experience to start. Remember to only deepfake images or videos that you have explicit permission to use. If in doubt, leave it out.

Can I deepfake for free?

Yes, there are some free deepfake tools available, including those listed in this directory. However, free tools are often lower quality than paid-for versions or there are limits on how much you can use the tool for free.

Is deepfake safe?

There is nothing inherently unsafe about deepfakes, but like will all technology, the risk comes from how you choose to use it. Making a deepfake of yourself dancing the tango like an expert is safe, but making pornographic deepfakes of colleagues, celebrities or anyone else without permission is not safe. It is also illegal and unethical.
